The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established in 2010 and the Master’s program in pharmaceutical chemistry was launched in 2021. Pharmaceutical chemistry is multidisciplinary field of research concerned with the design, synthesis, identification, development and analysis of new chemicals. This field of research helps in understanding the mechanism of action of drugs at the molecular level. Ultramodern techniques such as quantitative structure activity relationship, computer aided drug design, High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Ultra-violet spectroscopy (UV), Infrared spectroscopy (IR), flame photometer, digital melting point apparatus, microwave reactor, reaction dry bath, hot air oven, vacuum oven, high end filtration equipment’s and other instruments are used to study the chemical properties of drugs.
Our department is well equipped with facilities and equipment required for various chemical aspects of pharmaceuticals, including physical, analytical, organic, inorganic, biochemical and medicinal.
The scholars are well-versed in the application of cutting-edge information and scientific technologies in drug development safety and efficacy studies. There are well equipped laboratories for undergraduate scholars and research labs for postgraduate scholars. Well-qualified and experienced staff are the highlight of this department.
Department Objectives
To spread knowledge in the emerging areas of target based drug design and medication synthesis.
To expand the body of knowledge needed for synthesis, isolation, analytical process, purification and characterization of various active pharmaceuticals.
To enhance abilities for handling chemicals, glassware and analytical instruments effectively.
To give students the traits and abilities needed to do their jobs as chemists in pharmaceutical, chemical and biomedical industries.
To foster a long-lasting environment that supports academic and student research engagement.
To educate staff and students on how to handle chemicals safely and about the potentially harmful effects of chemicals.
